Mova doesn't run your job search. It runs the part of it that doesn't need you.
Same person, same job market, same first hour of the morning, spent two completely different ways.
This is a real Mova beta tester's case study, self-reported over thirty days. We call her Michelle, not her real name, to protect her privacy.
Two Versions of the Same Morning
Meet Michelle. Same coffee, same laptop, same career goals as any job seeker. This case study compares two mornings: one with Mova scanning the job market daily, one without it, doing everything by hand.

The Traditional Manual Job Search Experience
Michelle sits down and opens three major job boards. She is facing a mountain of roughly 1,000 new job listings posted in her industry and job titles over the last 24 hours.
To find the actual gems, she starts filtering by hand:
- She glances at job titles, fine-tunes her job board filters, and skips roughly 70% of them based on job title, taking about 20 minutes.
- She opens some listings for a quick scan of the job description and skips another 200 jobs, spending about 40 minutes here.
- Some of the more interesting jobs require a deeper dive into the full text of the trickier job descriptions. She discards another 85 jobs, spending another 60 minutes here.
- Only a select few make it to the final round, about 1.5% of all jobs listed in the last 24 hours, to pick out true potential matches. She spends another 20 minutes analyzing those final 15 job opportunities.
By the time she finishes filtering, Michelle has spent over 2 hours just scanning to uncover 15 strong potential matches. She hasn't written a single word of a job application yet, but her brain is already drained from making hundreds of micro-decisions.
Now she selects the top 5 roles to pursue. Writing a tailored resume, optimizing for ATS keywords, and drafting a custom cover letter from scratch takes roughly 60 minutes per job. Applying to all 5 takes another 5 hours.
Total manual time required: about 7 hours in a single day.
The Mova Job Search Experience
Michelle opens her laptop in the morning. While she slept, Mova scanned and analyzed all 1,000 market listings against her complete career profile.
Instead of digging through the listings herself, she wakes up to a pre-filtered shortlist of the same top 15 matching opportunities.
- She spends 1 to 2 minutes reviewing each match, taking about 20 minutes total to shortlist the best ones.
- She chooses the 5 roles she wants to target.
- For each job, Mova provides a ready strategy: targeted resume adjustments, ATS keyword alignment, and a cover letter angle built around what the company actually needs.
- She spends 10 minutes per application fine-tuning the job application, and adding her personal secret sauce before hitting submit (50 minutes total).
Total Mova time required: just over 1 hour to submit 5 high-quality applications.

Why an Application Takes 10 Minutes Instead of 60
The 50-minute savings per application is not about cutting corners or firing off generic, automated spam. When applying manually, most of Michelle's time is consumed by writer's block. She spends an hour dissecting the job description, rearranging resume bullet points, trying to weave in keywords naturally, and staring at a blank page attempting to draft a compelling cover letter. Mova removes the blank-page problem entirely by handing her the resume adjustments, the keyword alignment, and the cover letter angle already worked out. The heavy research, keyword mapping, and positioning strategy are already completed ahead of time. The 10 minutes she spends per application is focused entirely on the part only she can do: reviewing the strategy, tweaking nuances, verifying details, and making sure the final submission sounds like her.
The Realistic Fatigue Wall
A quick note on where these numbers come from: they reflect Michelle's real usage of Mova and my own job search experience before I built it, not software tracking her every move. No stopwatch, just real usage and real experience.

In theory, a manual job search covering the full 1,000-job market takes about 7 hours a day: over 2 hours to scan all 1,000 jobs, plus another 5 hours to write 5 tailored applications. That adds up to 5 applications a day and, in theory, full market coverage. Over 20 business days, that full theoretical workload adds up to about 140 hours a month.
This is where theory and reality split, and it's a split you'd feel too.
In reality, almost no one can sustain this routine for 20 straight working days. What actually happens is that you would hit a natural fatigue wall.
You scan only a portion of the market before backing off, roughly 250 to 300 jobs, taking about an hour. What still remains is all the writing. You then have to write those 2 or 3 tailored applications that day, and tailoring each application well takes about 60 minutes each, meaning that 3 applications add another 3 hours.
Rounded, that's about 3 to 4 hours a day, and it's that combination, limited scanning plus the real cost of writing a handful of tailored applications, that produces the wall people hit, not scanning time alone. Even at a realistic pace of 4 hours a day, the total over 20 business days still reaches 80 hours a month.
How the real numbers stack up:
| Metric | Full Theoretical Manual Search | Realistic Manual Search | Automated Search with Mova |
|---|---|---|---|
| Market Coverage | 1,000 daily jobs | 250–300 daily jobs | 1,000 daily jobs |
| Daily Time Spent | about 7 hours | about 4 hours | just over 1 hour |
| Daily Applications | 5 job applications | 2 to 3 job applications | 5 job applications |
| Monthly Time Spent (20 business days) | about 140 hours | about 80 hours | about 23 hours |
| 30-Day Interview Result | 4 interviews | Maybe 2 interviews | 4 interviews |
Due to the sheer amount of manual daily work, you would likely back off after scanning a portion of the market, potentially missing out on available opportunities. Over a 30-day period, instead of submitting 100 high-quality applications, you might manage about 50.
For Michelle, covering 100% of the market with Mova over these 30 days yielded roughly 100 submitted applications and 4 booked interviews, with hiring processes currently ongoing. If Michelle relied on manual searching capped at the realistic limits, her output would have been cut in half, landing at maybe 2 interviews from a much smaller slice of the market.
Even doing everything right, at a pace a person can actually sustain, the realistic manual path still falls behind by half. That's not a failure of effort. It's a limit of what manual search can cover in the time a person has.
Fast When It Matters, Slow Where It Counts
Mova doesn't run your job search. It runs the part of it that doesn't need you: finding what's actually posted, matching it to your background, drafting a first pass. That's the grind that wears people down before they've sent a single application. Hand that off and over 20 business days you get back about 57 hours a month, a real number, calculated against what a person can actually sustain doing this by hand, not some impossible baseline nobody could keep up for a week.
The time saved is used for slowing down where it counts: the last ten minutes on each application, when you decide if this company is worth pursuing, tighten the pitch, make it sound like you instead of a template. Mova stays out of that part on purpose. That is still your call, and that is what turns an application into an interview.

Those hours don't have to go straight back into more applications either. Some of them are better spent working your network, the other lever no tool can automate. We wrote about that here: AI Job Search Tools: What Actually Speeds Up Your Hiring.
